1.1 School
Profile
The former name
of Baguio City National High School was Mountain Province High School. Classes
were once held at the Teachers' Camp and native girls from the provinces near
Baguio were housed at the BUA dormitory, known today as the Pacdal Elementary
School. In 1937, the national government transferred the financial
responsibility of maintaining the secondary school to the city government of
Baguio. That's why the name was changed to Baguio City National High School.
Its main campus is on Governor Pack Rd., and it has several annexes in the
city.

BCNHS established at 1916. This school is located in Baguio
city, Benguet district, Philippines. This school includes Junior High
School and Senior High School. BCNHS Main Campus implements programs for
students who have high aptitudes in certain areas for 7 until 12 grades:
- Science,
Technology, and Engineering Program (STEP): Students who have passed the
entrance examinations and have high aptitude in science, mathematics and
English are given the chance to take the program.

Program in Sports (SPS)
- Special
Program in Arts (SPA)
Just like the other school,
education in Philippines is provided mainly by the Philippines government
through the Ministry of Education from Pre-School to Senior High School. A free
basic education of twelve years is guaranteed by the constitution, with minimun
of nine years school attendance. In 2009, the Ministry of Education announced
the extension of a free mandatory education to fifteen years.
The academic support system of BCNHS
have a laboratory, library, school clinics, chapel, conselor room, hall,
schoolyard and also stadium for sport to support all the students and teachers
activities. This school also have an extracurricular for the students such as
basket ball, music group, choir, and others.
BCNHS also has 10 groups learning consists
of: Mathematics, Science, Filipino Language, Art, Social, and Physical
Education.
1.3 Teaching System
The teaching system is based on the
overall development of the students because in the classroom, the teaching of
thinking is a vital skill for the future. Teaching process in BCNHS is more
focus on the interactive teaching between students and the teacher. Because teaching
and the learning process between teachers and students will lead the students
to be more active and have big confident in answering the question by the
teachers.
In the classroom, teachers become
the facilitators for students, supporting and encouraging them to explore their
own abilities. The teachers focus on each individual student becoming a better
person and improving their opportunities for a better future.
1.4 Materials and Other Learning
Sources
The teaching process in BCNHS use
materials and learning sources that provided by the teacher. Students are not
using any text book or course book for their lesson. All the materials like
media and instruction materials are prepared by the teacher to make students
easier to understand the lesson. Students are not allow to use any electronic
devices like Smartphone or calculator.
1.5 Measurement and Evaluation
Systems
In BCNHS
the measurement is giving to the students in every lesson. After they learn the
lesson they have an activity that will measure them understanding about the
materials. If the result of measurements is not satisfied, the teacher will
recall again the material in the next day to make them more understand about
the lesson.
Every quarter
BCNHS have their evaluation. They make an exam for the students in the end of
the quarter. It will evaluate the students form the lesson that they have learn
in every quarter. They also have remedial if the grade is not qualified with
the standard. Teacher
also use laboratory activity after the lesson for each topics.
1.6.Curriculum
Education in Philippines uses K to
12 Curriculum. The K to 12 basic education curriculum consist of Kindergarten,
Elementary for grade 1-6, Junior High School for grade 7-10, and Senior High
School for grade 11-12. The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of
basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High
School, and two years of Senior High School (SHS) to provide sufficient time
for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare
graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment,
and entrepreneurship.
Students acquire in-depth knowledge,
skills, values, and attitudes through continuity and consistency across all
levels and subjects. Discussions on issues such as Disaster Risk Reduction
(DRR), Climate Change Adaptation, and Information & Communication
Technology (ICT) are included in the enhanced curriculum. Subjects are taught from
the simplest concepts to more complicated concepts through grade levels in
spiral progression.
Secondary education consists of four
levels largely based on the American schooling system. DepEd (Department of
Education) specifies a compulsory curriculum for all secondary schools, public
and private. Secondary education known as Paaralang Sekundarya comprises
4 grades that have changed little since the second world war. The curriculum is
prescribed for both private and state schools. Core subjects are as follows:

2 - Filipino 2, Algebra 2, Biology, English 2, Asian History
- Year
3 - Filipino 3, Geometry, Chemistry, World History, Geography
- Year
4 - Filipino 4, Calculus, Trigonometry, Physics, Literature, Economics
Minor optional subjects include
Health, Music, Arts, Physical Education, Home Economics and Technology.
Selected schools present additional subjects.
1.7 Teaching Plan
Teaching
plan in this school, especially in Science, teachers should have to make a
instructional materials such as human skleton, Periodic table and also lesson
plan for every meeting. The lesson plan
includes learning objectives, learning assessment, learning content, learning
procedure and assignment.
